We investigate incidents of electric shock on premises located within Western Power's South West Interconnected Network (SWIS).
Reporting electric shock incidents
When a person receives an electric shock, legislation requires the incident to be reported to the relevant network operator.
The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) website outlines the requirements for reporting electrical accidents including electric shocks.
Investigation of electric shock incidents
We investigate electric shock incidents reported to Western Power.
If you report an electric shock, one of our electrical inspectors may contact you to find out more about what happened. They’ll investigate the incident to determine the cause of the shock.
They’ll also check to ensure the installation is safe to remain connected to the Western Power network. If the electric shock happened as a result of a faulty appliance, we may need to remove the appliance from your premises for further examination.
Every electric shock investigation we carry out is reported to the industry technical and safety regulator, Building and Energy.
