Your chance to learn more about how electricity works, the Western Power network and how to live safely near it.
A free curriculum linked website for upper primary school, where Lochie the Liney will lead you through fun lessons and activities teaching you how to be a Shockproof Liney like him.
Along the way complete activities such as circuit making to collect tools for your tool belt, and receive an official Shockproof certificate.

Teachers
The Shockproof website helps teach your children:
- how electricity works
- different kinds of energy
- what makes up the Western Power network
- how Western Power helps to bring electricity to their school and community
- what to do and who to call in an emergency situation
Encouraging your students to undertake some or all of the lessons on a regular basis will help refresh their knowledge of what to do in an emergency situation.
Parents
The Shockproof website helps teach your children:
- how electricity works

- how Western Power helps to bring electricity to their school and community
- what to do and who to call in an emergency situation
These important lessons will ensure that your family lives and plays safely around the Western Power network. Your child may be taking part in the program at school, however all resources and activities are also available to you at home.
This is a great opportunity to talk to your family about what they would do in an electrical emergency. Some important talking points include:
- electricity and water do not mix
- call a parent or 000 in an emergency and Western Power will attend to make the area safe
- stay at least 8m away from a fallen powerline, tell an adult or call 000 and Western Power will attend to make the area safe
- don't play near powerlines or electrical substations
- don't play on or near mini pillars (small green domes) as they contain live electrical wiring
- follow all warning signs on electrical equipment
- if you feel a small shock or tingle from a light switch or a tap call Western Power on 13 13 51 as it could be a sign of a bigger problem
Encouraging your children to undertake some or all of the lessons on a regular basis will help refresh their knowledge of what to do in an emergency situation.
