In the past 12 months, Western Power has collaborated with the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) WA and the development industry to reduce connection timeframes and ultimately bring new homes to the market faster.

Consequently, Western Power has implemented a new approach to working with developers and their contractors and consultants to bring forward the energisation of land development projects.

As part of this approach, we’re proactively engaging with land developers on practical completion dates, including scheduling resources earlier to align with these dates.

Western Power Head of Customer Connection Services Anthony Whiteaker said the revised approach will result in projects being energised from six weeks of the developer’s practical completion, down from the current timeframe of 16 weeks.

“We will continue to work proactively with the industry as this approach is adopted to ensure developers are seeing the benefits of these changes,” Mr Whiteaker said.

This change is part of a suite of initiatives introduced by Western Power in the past year in collaboration with UDIA and industry to accelerate new power connections to support the land development industry.

Please note: this process will require a revised Schedule Information Sheet (SIS) to be filled in as part of the Construction Admin Package.

See the below flowchart for an outline of the new energisation process.
