Western Australian volunteer bushfire brigades will soon benefit from Western Power funding that will support firefighting capabilities and brigade operations through its Bushfire Volunteers grant program.
The program, which provides grants to volunteer bushfire brigades within the Western Power network service area for equipment, supports volunteer firefighters to protect lives, homes and businesses from the devasting impacts of bushfires.
Western Power’s Chief Executive Officer Sam Barbaro said the business was proud to give back to volunteer groups who play such a vital role in the community.
“This funding will assist volunteer bushfire brigades to purchase additional equipment such as iPads, generators, shade structures and equipment bags, all part of ensuring brigades are able to safely and effectively carry out firefighting activities,” he said.
“Last year, we provided $45,500 in funding to 48 volunteer bushfire brigades in 23 local government areas across the network.”
“These grants are a part of our commitment to making a positive difference to local communities by supporting and recognising the dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to protect the community,” Mr Barbaro said.
“I’d like to thank the Bushfire Volunteers Association who continue to support and advocate for volunteer bushfire brigades across WA and who collaborate with us to administer these grants each year.”
Mr Barbaro said Western Power was implementing a range of measures to minimise bushfire risk ahead of this bushfire season. In addition to Western Power’s annual maintenance program, Western Power’s summer readiness program includes investing $136 million on pole replacements, $61 million on conductor replacements and $32 million on vegetation management.
Applications are now open and will close Wednesday 4 December 2024.
