Western Power is investing $1.5 million in infrastructure upgrades to enhance network resilience in Kentdale.
The work underway includes replacing 78 poles, insulators, and 15 kilometres of conductor, along with other essential maintenance.
Executive Manager of Asset Operations Zane Christmas said the upgrades would help strengthen local network infrastructure resilience to weather events.
"This package of work in Kentdale will replace ageing equipment such as transformers, crossarms, reclosers as well as install new poles to improve capacity,” he said.
Work will begin this month and be completed by June. It will require several planned outages so crews can safely complete the work. This will affect 36 customers, who will be notified by Western Power a minimum of three business days prior.
To mitigate the number of planned outages, some of the work will be safely undertaken while customers remain connected.
“We have aimed to mitigate seasonal and environmental impacts by starting the work in January as the hilly terrain the network traverses in the area is more likely to be dry and accessible to crews,” Mr Christmas said.
“While the work is taking place, there will be heavy vehicles in the area, so traffic management will be in place,” he said.
“We understand the inconvenience of planned outages, but these works will provide long-term improvements to the resilience of the network, with the aim of improving reliability for the community.”
