Western Power is continuing to upgrade and improve its network after completing a $1.2 million package of work to enhance network resilience in Merredin.
The infrastructure upgrades included replacing about 60 poles and 6.5 kilometres of conductor, upgrading streetlights and insulators, and undertaking other essential maintenance.
Executive Manager of Asset Operations, Zane Christmas said the upgrades, which began in May last year, would help boost network resilience to weather impacts.
"We’ve replaced sections of overhead wires with covered aerial bundle cable (ABC) which is more durable and less susceptible to environmental impacts, and we’ve upgraded a number of insulators increasing resilience against pole top fires,” he said.
"We’ve also upgraded other aging equipment to improve capacity and reinforce the network in Merredin.”
Most work was done in Merredin townsite in May through October last year.
Mr Christmas said some planned power outages were necessary to complete the work safely and we thank the community for their patience during this time.
“We’re committed to continuously improve the delivery of power supply to regional communities.”
