Transporting oversize loads can be dangerous, especially if steps are not taken to ensure the load remains a safe distance from powerlines

We deem all loads 4.3m and over as an oversize load and therefore require transporters to submit an authorisation request for assessment and issuance to protect all Western Power Assets and Infrastructure.

Authorisation to transport oversized loads

Once we receive your application we will assess if the load can travel safely and what special conditions, if any, are required. We will then issue an Oversize Load Movement Authorisation setting out the conditions which must be adhered to at all times.

In some cases substantial planning and/or construction works are required (e.g. undergrounding, moving or raising powerlines). In these cases Western Power will quote on the work required.

Load movements within Western Power (SWIS) and Horizon Power networks (inter-district)

If you need to transport oversize loads between Western Power’s network and Horizon Power’s network, you can lodge a single inter-district application for travel with the network at the point of origin. Please refer to this map (PDF 700 Kb) that shows the boundaries for Western Power and Horizon Power. For further Inter-district boundaries see Horizon Power service area map

Load movements outside the Western Power network

If you need to transport oversize loads in outside of the SWIS in Western Australia, please refer to Horizon Power.

SWIS and statewide authorisations

We offer an open permit for both SWIS or inter-district for loads that fall between 4.3-4.6m only.

The line height reports (below) must be checked for lines that may impact routes. It's the customers responsibility to divert their route to comply with all restrictions.

Please note: This permit is valid for 6 months only and is the customers responsibility to reapply prior to its expiry.
