Public consultation is an important part of transparent decision-making. We welcome feedback on the following projects to help determine their direction and ensure we are meeting customer and industry needs.

Community battery projects

Powering our community's sustainable future

Western Power, in collaboration with local councils and supported by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), is rolling out community batteries across the Perth metropolitan area. This exciting initiative is part of the Federal Government’s $200 million plan to deploy 400 community batteries nationwide. We've been awarded the opportunity to roll out thirteen batteries.

How community batteries work

A community battery stores excess solar energy produced by nearby homes during the day and then releases it during peak usage times, such as in the evening. By balancing energy supply and demand, these batteries help reduce pressure on the network, provide a reliable power supply, and support the community's transition to renewable energy and a more sustainable future.

Designed with your community in mind

The battery procurement process is being finalised and the final technology hasn’t been chosen. We understand the importance of integrating community batteries smoothly into neighbourhoods. Batteries are becoming smaller and more powerful, and we work closely with local councils and vendors to identify the most suitable battery for each location, ensuring these installations enhance community spaces with artwork that complements the area.
