Principal Network Business Development Specialist

At Western Power, within the Customer Decarbonisation function, we are at the forefront of this transition, working to identify and facilitate the connection of large-scale, customer-funded renewable generation and storage projects to our network.
We are excited to offer a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Principal Network Business Development Specialist to join our team at the Perth office.
We are seeking an experienced professional with a deep and broad understanding of network utility regulation, technology, and the key considerations involved in the justification and development of impactful, large-scale energy projects.
Your Role in Action
This role is responsible for identifying external factors that impact the way our major customers utilise electricity which could be factored into the development of the long-term network plans, as well as identifying opportunities to use this change in behaviour and technology as potential non-network solutions.
Accountabilities also include:
- Seeking out and developing the pipeline of large renewable, load and storage opportunities as they form within industry.
- Engaging with external organisations and government bodies so that Western Power has early indication of these opportunities and ensure that a formalised regular stream of information is distributed to internal stakeholders to enable medium to long term business planning activities.
- Help model and guide these projects from concept to initial enquiry stages.
- Identifying and developing the thinking regarding how emerging major industry technologies, revenue growth opportunities and industry innovation within the energy environment will impact on Western Power’s medium to long term business planning.
- Provide high level in-depth thought leadership, analysis, and guidance on how Western Power will transfer external emerging technologies, revenue growth opportunities and industry innovation into its internal long-term business strategy, bringing more strategic and commercial solution options to our major customers.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- A seasoned professional, with comprehensive and broad understanding of network utility regulation, technology, and the requirements this place on justification and development of projects.
- Degree qualification in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Business, or related discipline
- Recognised as a thought leader in areas of focus in the industry.
- Strategic perspective, strong analytical and business acumen capability, ability to think conceptually and ability to apply business context to emerging technology and innovation issues.
- Significant experience in new revenue generation, product development, consumer insights, strategic thinking, and planning.
- Proven track record of effective management and membership of high-profile planning teams.
- Proven track record of delivering robust plans and project justifications including e.g. feasibility studies etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and influencing skills - in particular, the ability to prepare and present compelling justifications for emerging technological and or innovate strategies and programs for consumption by a range of internal and external stakeholders.
