  • +$570,000 in VBFB grants provided since 2007

Western Australia’s Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades have shared in more than $95,000 from Western Power to strengthen their preparedness for the upcoming bushfire season.

Western Power’s Chief Executive Officer Paul Italiano said we are proud to continue supporting WA’s courageous volunteer firefighters who help protect lives and property.

“Western Power’s bushfire grants will be used by the local brigades to purchase resources such as medical equipment, water tanks and pumps that will directly support their efforts to help keep the community safe from bushfire this summer,” he said.

Western Power initially offered $80,000 this year to assist brigades, however, following an assessment process a total of $95,035 has been awarded to 33 Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades across southern parts of WA.

Since 2007 Western Power has contributed more than $570,000 to communities through the annual grants program to help equip volunteer firefighters.

Western Power has also joined other Western Australian emergency services this summer in supporting the Are You Bushfire Ready? community safety campaign to help Western Australians plan for bushfire season.

“Preparing for the summer fire season is a team effort which is why Western Power continues to invest in community projects to help everyone to be bushfire ready,” Mr Italiano said.

“Western Power works throughout the year to reduce the risk of bushfire by clearing vegetation away from the network, washing and silicone coating pole top equipment and replacing ageing electricity infrastructure.”

Applications for the grants are assessed by a panel including representatives from Western Power, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services and the WA Association of Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades (WAVBFB).
