Western Power grants boost life-saving equipment for bushfire brigades

Thirty Western Australian Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades have shared in $95,000 worth of grants from Western Power to purchase essential equipment in preparation for this year’s fire season.

Western Power’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Italiano said the Western Power Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade grants provide support to the brave firefighters who give up their time to protect our local communities.

“Being adequately prepared for fire season can make the difference between life and death during a fire emergency, and that is why Western Power supports our local bushfire brigades,” Mr Italiano said.

“This year the panel assessing the grant applications allocated funding to purchase life-saving equipment such as defibrillators and oxygen resuscitation kits, training equipment and water tanks.

“Eneabba, Carnamah, Moonyoonooka and Irishtown Bush Fire Brigades are some of the brigades which used their grants to purchase defibrillators that have the potential to save lives.”

Mr Italiano said that Western Power, along with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services and other essential services, promote the Are You Bushfire Ready? safety campaign to help everyone prepare for summer.

“All West Australians, particularly those in bushfire prone areas, have a responsibility to prepare their homes and have a bushfire plan in place to reduce the risk of property damage and injury during bushfire season,” he said.
