Western Power announces new CEO

Western Power is pleased to announce that Ed Kalajzic has been appointed as Western Power’s new CEO.

Board Chair Mr Colin Beckett said following an extensive recruitment process, Mr Kalajzic stood out as the most qualified candidate to lead Western Power.

“Mr Kalajzic’s strong record of leadership and experience, his drive and detailed knowledge of the Western Australian business landscape clearly demonstrated to us he is the right person to lead the company,” Mr Beckett said. "I take this opportunity to thank our Acting CEO Dave Fyfe for his fine leadership during the COVID-19 crisis. Western Power under Dave’s stewardship has earnt high marks around the country for a steady approach to business during very uncertain times."

As required by the Electricity Corporations Act 2005, the WA Minister for Energy Mr Bill Johnston confirmed his agreement with the Board’s decision yesterday.

Mr Kalajzic, who has been Western Power’s Chief Financial Officer since October 2019, thanked the Board for the opportunity and employees for their support. He said it was a great honour to lead one of Western Australia’s major companies during a period of significant change.

“I don’t think you could imagine a more disruptive time to take the helm of a business,” he said. “But I’ve been so impressed by the way our 2800-odd staff members have risen to the challenge of the times and adopted new and innovative ways to keep the lights on for our 2.3 million customers."

“I’ve seen this innovation in many areas during my time so far at Western Power, and that gives me confidence we can continue to be the trusted energy source for Western Australians for decades to come,” Mr Kalajzic said.

Mr Kalajzic commenced at Western Power in October 2019, as Chief Financial Officer. He brings a wealth of financial and strategic management skills to Western Power. With experience in capital management, strategic planning, finance, accounting, business transformation and more. He’s had senior management and leadership roles at Price Waterhouse Coopers, CBH Group, Viriids Ag and the CBH Superannuation Fund.

Ed’s roles at CBH Group include Business Development Manager and Chief Financial Officer, and his most recent role prior to Western Power was General Manager WA for Viridis Ag. Ed holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting and Finance). He’s a Chartered Accountant and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
