30 million kilometres.
That’s how far our light fleet travels every year around our electricity network. (We also have a heavy fleet that racks up a lot of kilometres too!)
It’s not a surprising figure when you consider our electricity network covers more than 255,000 square kilometres.
In short, we drive…a lot.
The majority of our light fleet is ready for renewal, and we’ve taken the opportunity to modernise how we manage it.
By entering into a leasing arrangement, we gain the flexibility to increase or decrease the size of our fleet based on our needs, as well as helping to reduce vehicle down time.
Importantly, the change will save us – and the community – $38 million over the next five years.
Light fleet, heavy benefits
Our updated light fleet will be safer and smarter than ever before.
All new light fleet vehicles will have a five star ANCAP safety rating and state-of-the-art driver emergency call and location technology installed.
This technology allows drivers to notify a central contact point at any time if safety concerns arise. It will also automatically notify our safety team in the event of an accident, for example if a car rolls over.
These features are a major benefit for such a mobile workforce, particularly in remote parts of the State.
We are also introducing Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles – commonly known as PHEVs – which combine fuel and battery technology and will help reduce our emission footprint.
These light fleet changes are part of our ongoing commitment to deliver the safest and lowest-cost service to our customers.
We’re driven to make the next 30 million kilometres safer, smarter and greener.
