Western Power supports local performance artists at Fringe World

Western Power supports local performance artists as a principal sponsor of the 2013 Fringe World Festival.

Western Power has supported ARTRAGE, the organisation behind the Fringe World Festival, for a number of years and has sponsored the festival’s Martin Sims Award for the best Western Australian production since its introduction in 2012.

The Martin Sims Award winner receives development support as part of their prize which allows them to tour their work to other national and international festivals that are part of the World Fringe Alliance.

Last year’s Martin Sims Award-winning act, City of Shadows by Rachael Dease, has since had a successful international premiere at the 2012 New York Fringe Festival and will be making a return to the 2013 Perth festival with encore shows from 12 to 14 February.

The Martin Sims Award is named after the late Martin Sims, a lifelong advocate for the arts in Western Australia, a Western Power employee for 22 years and an ARTRAGE supporter.

Fringe World Festival is a packed program of cabaret, sketch and stand-up comedy, theatre and music performances, with a dash of film and visual art exhibitions.

The event runs from January 25 to February 24, with events taking place in more than 50 venues throughout the City of Perth and beyond.
