Statement on the 2014 Parkerville bushfire claim
Posted on 13 August 2015
Comments – to be attributed to a Western Power spokesperson.
“EnergySafety investigated the cause of the Parkerville bushfire. EnergySafety’s report states that the cause of the Parkerville bushfire in January 2014 was a fallen privately owned power pole that failed because of rot and termites.
“The report also found that the work conducted by contractors working on behalf of Western Power in July 2013 did not contribute to the pole’s failure.
“Western Power has adequate systems of inspection, maintenance and replacement of wooden poles in its network.
“The pole was not part of Western Power’s network. It is the responsibility of a property owner to keep private electrical infrastructure on their property in a fit and safe condition.”
