$5 million upgrade to tackle Bremer Bay reliability

Network upgrades and maintenance at Bremer Bay begin this month and will see the replacement of approximately 400 poles and upgrades to pole top devices.

The works will be conducted over the next five months in and around Bremer Bay, as well as parts of Jerramungup area.

Western Power’s Works manager Zane Christmas said the $5.4 million project will strengthen the grid against seasonal and environmental reliability problems.

“We know that this type of upgrade work helps supply reliability for people who work and live in Bremer Bay, as well as the thousands of tourists that visit throughout summer,” said Mr Christmas.

“The work will also ensure that we can best utilise the existing network infrastructure and unlock future opportunities to link innovative solutions to enhance our network.”

Mr Christmas said the project is an example of how bundling a number of small jobs into a large project created efficiencies and minimises customer impact.

“No one likes to be without power, so we try to work in live conditions wherever we can. When it is not safe to work live we organise a planned outage. With bundled work we can do multiple jobs during a couple of big planned outages, instead of a dozen smaller outages in an area.”

The Bremer Bay project is scheduled to be completed by the end of March 2018, and we will continue to work with customers to answer their concerns and minimise the inconvenience as much as possible.

Planned outages
• Wednesday 15 November from 7.30am to 6.00pm
• Wednesday 6 December and Thursday 7 December – approximately four, 10
minute interruptions between 9.00am and 6.00pm
• Other smaller power outages as required
