Disconnections

There are two types of disconnection – temporary and demolition.

Temporary disconnection

It is sometimes necessary to temporarily disconnect your power supply to complete renovations and maintenance work.

How to apply

For a temporary disconnection during work hours, complete the online network services form.

For a temporary disconnection outside working hours (to save disruption to your business), complete an isolation of services form and send with a copy of the Electrical Contractor’s Preliminary Notice.

Demolition disconnection

Demolition disconnections must be arranged through your electricity retailer.  Before arranging a disconnection, the property owner or tenant (whoever has the electricity account) must finalise their account. If you are using a demolition company, they will usually organise this for you.

Types of demolition disconnections

Overhead areas Requires the removal of the meter and the overhead service cable.
Underground areas (residential) It is the responsibility of the owner to remove the underground cable between the pillar and the building; however, arrangements need to be made for the disconnection and removal of the metering equipment.
Existing CT metering If the metering installation has a CT (typically large commercial premises) then the property owner needs to:
- get a quote for removal of the CT meter using the obtain a quotation for CT meter removal form
- make arrangements for the removal of the underground consumer mains.
Direct cabling Some commercial premises, especially in the Perth and Fremantle CBDs, are fed via an underground cable directly from the street mains.  If you think this may be the case, call 13 10 87 to arrange removal of the cable.
