Electrical safety
We use electricity every day for all kinds of things.
It is very important, but it can be dangerous.
Knowing a bit about electricity can help keep you safe at home, school and outside.
Shocking facts!
- Electricity works in a loop like a circle/circuit
- Turning off a switch breaks the circle and stops the electricity
Electricity travels easily through water, metal and you! If electricity can pass through you, you become a conductor!
- Electricity always goes to earth, and it travels through conductors to get there!
- Switches, plugs, appliances and power points are not toys – never, never play with them!
- Do not overload power points by piggybacking adaptors. Incorrect usage of adaptors or power boards can result in home and office fires, endangering lives and causing considerable property damage. A power point has a certain number of plug sockets for a reason! Only use a power board with a built in safety switch/circuit"!
