Construction has now commenced on the Western Power Wangara zone substation.
The new substation is required to cater for current and future growth in Perth’s rapidly expanding northern suburbs and will provide a more reliable power supply for existing residents and businesses.
The site, located at 80 Windsor Road within the Wangara Industrial area, was selected after considerable investigation and was chosen for its central location to the customers that require power.
The substation is to be completed by late 2010, when forecasts indicate that the existing Lansdale and Mullaloo substations that currently provide electricity to the area would have reached their designed capacity.
Two 132,000 volt (132 kV) transmission lines are required to connect the substation into the existing Landsdale–Mullaloo line on Wanneroo Road. One of these lines will be constructed on Windsor Road and the other on Lancaster Road.
