Southern River transmission line

Western Power is working to improve reliability and increase the capacity to customers in the Southern River area by constructing a new transmission line which will cut in to the network at Skeet Road.

The proposed transmission line will be approximately 2.5 km long and comprise of 25 steel poles. It will connect to an existing 132 kV single circuit line at Skeet Road, turn at Ranford Road, then turn onto Southern River Road, before connecting to the Southern River Substation.
Once in service, the line will improve the reliability of the power supply to customers in the area allowing for the continued development of the surrounding suburbs.

Key project elements

Construction will be staged as follows:

  • Stage 1: foundations for the poles have already been installed along Skeet Road in Forrestdale. 
  • Stage 2: foundations for the poles along Ranford Road and Southern River Road and will be constructed between August and September 2009. 
  • Stage 3: The final phase of construction will commence with the installation of the poles and lines from April 2009 with the completion of the project scheduled for September 2010.

Western Power will provide information about expected in service dates for the newly built lines and continue to liaise with occupants affected by the transmission line works.

Proposed timeline*

  • June-Sept 2009 - Construction of pole foundations
  • April 2010 - Poles to be erected
  • September 2010 - Project in service
