Maddington substation

Facts at a glance

  • Western Power is planning for the future of Maddington and surrounding areas
  • Western Power has purchased land for the proposed development of a new zone substation in Maddington
  • The proposed zone substation will help Western Power continue to supply a safe, reliable and efficient power supply

Proposed timeline

It is anticipated that construction of the substation will commence in July 2009 to ensure that the substation is operational by November 2010.

In detail

Western Power is currently proposing to design and construct a new 132 / 22 kV substation in Austin Avenue, Maddington.

The substation will allow Western Power to meet increasing power demand and ensure the reliability of power in the south east suburbs of Perth.

Zone substations convert high voltage power to lower voltage electricity for transportation by distribution lines to homes and businesses.

The proposed substation site is located at 29 Austin Avenue, Maddington, within Davison Industrial Area. The substation would be supplied by the existing Cannington Terminal - Gosnells 132,000 volt (132 kV) transmission line, which is located adjacent to the site.
