Leading the way
Western Power contributes to energy conservation in a number of ways including:
Western Power education consultants visit up to 150 schools each year, talking to over 30,000 students from pre-primary to year seven about electrical safety and energy efficiency.
Smart Grid development
A smart grid is the application of communications and information technology to a traditional electricity network. It enables Western Power to remotely monitor and manage the electricity network. It gives real-time information on network performance and consumption which can be used to make sustainable and commercial decisions on infrastructure operation and development. Importantly, it also enables consumers to monitor their energy consumption and make informed choices.
Perth Solar City
An exciting $73.5 million initiative of the Australian Government designed to help communities change the way they produce, use and save energy. The program covers communities within Perth's eastern region. Residents in that area can access free energy advisory services and discounted solar hot water and solar photovoltaic systems that allow them to generate their own energy. Working to bring Perth Solar City to the community is a Consortium of local businesses, including Western Power, the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority, the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council, Mojarra, Prospero Productions, Solahart, SunPower and Synergy.
Future Energy Alliance
A partnership between Western Power, Synergy and Horizon aimed at encouraging the community to conserve energy through the ‘Switch the Future’ campaign.
An annual campaign increasing electricity awareness and providing tips on how to reduce electricity use in the home.
