Increasing the volts to Cottesloe's power supply
Release Date: 20 May 2009
In June Western Power will carry out work to upgrade the power supply in parts of Cottesloe, Mosman Park, Nedlands, Peppermint Grove and Claremont.
This work will involve converting the local powerlines from 6.6kV to 11kV, significantly increasing the amount of power the lines can carry and deferring, for now, the need for another substation in the area.
The project is linked to the recent refurbishment of the Cottesloe substation in Joel Terrace, Cottesloe.
Residents have recently received a letter outlining the work set to commence in June. Each home will be contacted again when the work affecting their property is scheduled. Three to seven days advance notice will be given for any planned power interruption.
It is expected that each home will only experience one power interruption while the work is carried out. Western Power has organised the work to take place between midnight and 5am to minimise, as much as possible, the disruption to customers.
The first stage of the project will focus on properties to the north of the Cottesloe substation. The second phase of the project, set to commence in 2010, will focus on properties to the south of the substation.
